Universal oil

what do you all make of this arrival in classic cars mag
?
If I read right it’s one oil does all ? Not sure I like that idea

Ffs. Few technical issues going on here. But what I’m trying to say is in classic car mag this month fuzz T was promoting a series 3 diesel petrol oil that could be used in diffs engine etc

whats it say about it ,universal oil was widely used in tractors which became super universal when wet brakes became common,presumably some cars were designed to run engine and box on the same oil 4 speed rrc were

Cross country ep20w-50 gl4 ... combination of additives used that enAble engines gearboxes and diffs to operettas smoothly using high zinc package and quality base oil.

for a series i would use an ep oil as that was last recommended for diffs and box

zinc was a useful anti wear additive in older oils thats not compatible with cats so older engines would benefit from such an oil rather than a modern,

The Mini

I was thinking Mini too, but it was always a compromise. The task of the gear oil and engine oil are in my view suffciently differnent and the bother of using 2 oils sufficiently low that I can't see the point. 2 cans in shed vs 1, if cans in shed were a problem there's another 10 in mine with an inch of someting in. Makes sense for the military and such because every addional spare type is a mssive extra cost, but for us?
