Underseal Choices

What would you recommend I protect my 2011 Defender chassis with? Is Waxoyl still the treatment of choice or are there other, better products these days?

Dinitrol - they are the OEM of the products that a lot of manufacturers use, including BMW and Merc - given some of the 12 year corrosion guarantees they give now it must be good.

There are about 10 different versions, on their site they explain them all, some are for new steel, so don't get them, you want a water displacement & protective coating for the inside which mists up when sprayed and goes everywhere, then a heavier coating for the exterior of the chassis.

I think 1 litre of the internal coating stuff is about enough if it's a top up or maybe about 1 and a bit if it's a first coating. With my 1 litre I had stuff left over for the doors and bulkhead and A pillars, but that was a second or maybe 3rd treatment.

A couple litres of the heavier stuff for the exterior chassis parts.

Just repaired my chassis then gave it a good coating, purchased it through Dinitrols ebay site, cheaper than buying from elsewhere

I always use shutz Ive never had any problems using it and its not too expensive

It's OK for the externals but it's a bit heavy to run between metalwork and around welds and things.

I found that dinitrol was able to find a way out of just about every seam and crevice, that has therefore coated everything inside, it even rises up out of holes on the top of the chassis so I can only imagine the insides will have been well coated.

If money is tight and you are into recycling you could always use old engine oil, a hand garden sprayer and an old paint brush. Don't use diesel engine oil if you can help it as it stinks and Just make sure cover your driveway........or you could just ignore this and buy any of the fine products already recommended

Or dissolve a tin of shoe polish into warm diesel/turps/kero/ and spray that on.

There's a company called "before-n-after" at www.before-n-after.co.uk who apply a product called KLEENtect. They advertise in the trader marketplace of LRO. Does anyone have experience of the company or product? £1800 for my 110 sounds a bit steep!

£1800 ,id steer well clear ,just get some cheap waxoyl and spray it on every year

More than a new galv chassis (minus swapping costs of course!)

Pardon? £1800 - that is it: I'm getting a unit, a ramp and some cans of Dinitrol and I am going to offer under sealing!

Linseed oil mixed with white spirit sprayed on !! Let it dry then spray with Schultz !! Works very well !! After a few months give it a spray of old engine oil !! Be like new !!!

if you do just take precautions... used oil is carcinogenic and also deadly to bikers if you slap too much on n go joyriding too soon... prob still be less than my series 3 drips lol

on the 110 I've gone for a bare metal strip, kurust, 6 coats of hammerite and then waxoyl, chassis has then been drilled every 12" from the top and a mix of waxoyl, oil and thinners sprayed in using a sealey waxoyl gun (thin mix mists superbly), about £60+ but worth every penny for a long term investment... knocks spots off my previous schutz gun....

prob about as extreme as possible before getting a galv chassis but that wasn't an option

I realise this is a bit of a dead thread but I can’t speak highly enough of Dinitrol. When i was in the army, the Daf 4 ton trucks were replaced by MANN trucks, dinitrol was the under seal sprayed on absolutely everything. Those vehicles take some serious punishment and the dinitrol never breaks. The one to really look out for in Dinitrol 4942M. Although plain 4942 is good enough.

I’ve had mine done with this too - good stuff
