Yup all. . . . . .Need yer advice , wots the new Disco like to drive un wot Mpg do yer get, how do they compare wiff older type Disco's, any good orft road, no its a big ask but i am intrested. . . . . .i thank you . Ming the Merfiless :) :) :)

Disco 3 is OK as long as you don't want a LandRover for LandRover reasons.

Front tyres - replace every 12,000 miles.

Fuel consumption - worse than 200tdi, 300 tdi, TD5 - this is called progress.

There are suspension problems. LandRover seem to have got it wrong.

But for a big fancy street car they are OK.

Well, despite it all, my TD5 (no sunroofs) is doing great at 60,000 miles.
It's a gutless brute off the mark, but as soon as it's moving it does very well. It's quite a good mover too.

It is amazing off road, and very comfortable on the road. Mine has air suspension, no air-con (what for?) automatic cornering enhancement, traction control, ABS, and that lot makes it a very handy truck indeed.

So for a main use car I think a good TD5 is a good option.

For a play car, a good Disco 1 200tdi or early 300tdi has to be the answer. Mine can pull 6 tons gross up the motorway no bother just being careful at 55 mph, and that's something most of the opposition won't manage.

I think Disco 2 will prove to be one of the ultimate LandRovers ever. Having now experienced Disco 3 cars, I won't ever own one. Just not my sort of car. It's too naff, too city shopping, too posy and poncy, too bling, and throwing a chainsaw and all the kit in the back and a big log trailer on the hitch just wouldn't be the same somehow .

Remember too, the Disco 3 towing attachment costs a fortune, and is only a 50mm ball, without the option of the pin-and-ring type. It also falls off I am told. I fitted my towbracket, and I can assure y'all, it will NOT fall off!

I went in a D3 last week, and I thought it was fantastic !.
It was so smooth on the road. 2000rpm at 80 mph as oppose to nearly 3000 in the TD5 .( quiet too ).

However,

I would never own one, and I think that Land Rover have brought the end to an era of serviceable " people carrying Land Rovers " with the Discovery 3.

This fact is evident by the lack of posts on forums like these in relation to problem solving and repair help.

Simply put, the Halo Trust out in Angola wont be running a fleet of 100 or so Land rovers, ( many of which are Disco,s ), in 20 years, because the D3 cant be maintained with an adjustable spanner and some banana skins !.

The D3 struggles with fuel economy also.

Lovely motor, but then again so is 5 series BMW !.

I regularly drive a 57 plate TDV6 at work which has currently got over 105k on the clock. I've just been out to the garage and at the moment it's quoting 29.4 on average fuel consumption. Ours has got the six speed auto box and is incrediably smooth and surprisingly agile (we run these fully loaded almost up to the axle weight). It's not a spec available to the public so I can't comment too much on creature comforts as it doesn't have many but its good enough to spend eight hours in and not complain.
We did an off road driving course with Landrover at thier Landrover experience Milton Keynes and have to say that the adaptive all terrain dial up Gizmo (I'm not technically minded) is amazing and works. I'm an ex squady so have done some practical mud sliding in series III and 110's but the new Discovery is mind blowing off road. During the rescent spell of bad weather I didn't take anything else out in the snow and ice and got back with out going off road which was a bonus! If I had the money I'd definately consider it!
