Hi Guys.

A friend of mine took my p38 to do some towing work today and came back supprised how good it worked and cruised.

He then asked me, what is the ultimate p38? He just thought if he was going to buy one to keep for 10yrs +, he would get the 'collectable one'.

Any thoughts?

2001 diesel dshe if you can get one dse was the last one ,Although I know of a late Registered 2002 petrol model what's he after petrol or diesel ??? Auto better for towing? or Manual
 
If he just wants to tow and keep a diesel the last post is correct. If he wants to keep and have all the toys then a 2001 V8 Autobiography. Even a Holland and Holland or one of the other special editions. All will tow. Just make sure it a perfect low mileage example with complete service history.
 
Holland and Holland, Linley, Rhino, Overfinch. These were made in small numbers and fetch a premium these days. Although you could get an Overfinch made now if you roll up and say "covert my P38 plox, I don't care how much it costs, just get it done." I can't imagine you'd ever get your money back though.

Personally if I had the cash, I'd go with a Holland and Holland.

There are other limited edition P38s, but I don't really see them ever being a collectors item. SUVs don't have the same appeal as a sports car.
 
The rarest I belive are the Linley Limited Editions...

Only made to special order Land Rover Special Vehicles promised to maintain exclusivity and not build more than 10 worldwide....in the end only 6 were built, with 5 of those for the UK market and the Sixth in Left Hand Drive for a dotcom Millionaire in America.

Based on the MY2000 model4.6 HSE, they sold for £100k and underwent around 100 hours of hand-finishing.

Solid black colour, 18" hurricanes, Black interior, leather roof lining and parcel shelf, wood veneer in Piano Black, rear picnic tables, TV & Video system, and Stainless Steel 'Starburst' pattern graphics.

Now thats a rare P38.....

I never liked the seats in the Linley, it looked like a middle aged woman's face had been stained black.

I retract my statement on the Linley. That'd be the car to get if you could find one in the UK that wasn't in the hands of a hoarder.
Although I still favour the Holland and Holland.
 
There was a Holland and Holland on eBay the other day, I really like the rhino's, and the Westminster, there was a few for the American market that we didn't get, the callaway for 1, also if you could find a tidy vogue 50,

Saint, what is this book you talk of? I may need to purchase a copy, coz I'm a geek too :D:eek:

The yanks also got a strange spontaneous combustion edition. You see a lot of them on YouTube.
