Heya!

I am looking for other cars interested in a UK to Australia overland expedition. I will be doing the route as a one-way trip ending up in Sydney, and it would be nice to have another car for this trip to join as a team! :)

I drive a 110 Double Cab Pickup, which is almost all kitted up for this.

The route so far seems to be through Eastern Europe/Moscow/Kazakhstan/India/Nepal/SE Asia/Singapore (Ferry)/Darwin/Sydney

Any suggestions or fellow travellers welcome.
Dates are somewhat flexible so far...

Jon

god id love to get back to oz again but as i dont even have enough money to fly there i somehow think i wouldnt have enough to do an overland trip there. would be a great experience though :)

I could be looking at doing that next year but will probably take a longer route and spend time visiting places.Could take up to year.
I have also spent 6 months in Russia in 1998 and did 38 000 miles in a Citroen BX 19 t was one of the greatest Trips i have done

Thanks for the advice bev! :)
These are the best tips, and they are VERY much appreciated!!!!
:)
:D

You're welcome, my name is Lee, my daughter is the bev part.

We're currently in Malaysia and will be shipping next Monday to Australia, we came through Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China so if there is anything you need to know just ask.

Well, there would be a LOT to ask! :)
Firstly I am planning to include India and Nepal in the trip, which makes finding a route very hard unless you drive through Pakistan (which I am trying to avoid). I have found a piste that goes from Pusa Pasture (West China) to Duomaxiang on G219 road (see link below - marked as "Road 1" blue shaded area)

And then from Rutog (China) to Gandpa Gompa (India) (marked as "Road 2" blue shaded area), but I cannot see a border post in this one... can you travel through there legally then?

Link for the whole map here:
London - Sydney - Google Maps

The lines are all possible itineraries... Do you have a map of your trip so far?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Why are you trying to avoid Pakistan?, I'm going to be passing through round about the end of the year with some of the guys I've met here in Malaysia?
Have you arranged a guide for the China leg?
The chinese travel agent will be the one to tell you where you can pass.
I'll try and get hold of my mate here tomorrow to ask him where you could pass, it's already nighttime here, 8 hours ahead.

I'm trying to avoid Pakistan for no real good reason at the moment, but purely on people "suggesting" it is unsafe...

Chinese guide is the next thing I need to organise... If you want to pass me the contacts of the one you use it would be great, thanks!

Hi Lee,
I sent you an email through the forum.
Let me know if you get it

we are on for a similar trip in 2013 (jan/feb) but sticking to Central Asia, Mongolia and then onto Siberia. We will ship out of Vladivostok.

The old route used to be south through Iran skirting south Pakistan and into India, not sure how feasible this is anymore. You will struggle with land borders for foreigners in northern parts I would imagine. you will need to transit China via the KKH to get into India. I did read an article in the Overland Journal some time ago, looked fantastic.

Honestly speaking, the route was done to also have some sort of "expedition" through India/SE Asia as these are beautiful areas to visit...
I ama ware of Vladivostok as a favourable shipping point for OZ, but I was trying to drive SE Asia to get to see more "while I was there"...

I will obviously have to look into this much much more...
ALL imput though is HIGHLY appreciated guys, thanks ;)

Hello Lee,

My single biggest question is gaining entry into China with the vehicle.

I would dearly like to travel from UK to Beijing.
I guess through Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and finally into China.
So please, how did you manage to get into China. ?
Over the past few years, I actually spend more time living in China (Weifang in Shandong province) than I do in UK.
As such, I am certainly no stranger to China, and do ride in Weifang on a Chinese registered motorbike.
