A mate liked my freelander so much he went and brought one for himself.. came round to show me his proud new purchase and I noticed that on the front he had 195/80/R/15 and on the backs he had 195/100/S/15

Just wondered if that would of damaged anything? I suggest he try not to drive on it to much untill I get an awnser from the guru's as the back ones look pretty new and may of only been put on 1,000 miles or so ago.

195/100/S/15......seems odd?

A standard profile is 80 so they don't always put it on the tyre.

Is that exactly how it looked on the tyre?

I wonder if 100 is the load rating and S is the speed rating
 
just got him to read it out to me it says exactly:

195R15
100S

with them both on seperate lines...

What would different size tires cause? I read soething about damaging the 4 wheel drive. If so is there anyway to test it and fin dout if its to late already....

That's just what I was thinking, front and rears are the same size.

A 195/R15 is the same as a 195/80/15.

The 100 shown is the load rating and S is the speed rating.

You are right about different sizes overloading the drivetrain, all tyres must be the same size (diameter) and the newest must always be fitted to the rear. So if you needed new front tyres then the part worn rears must be swopped to the front and the new ones fitted on the rear.
 
I wud still check the rolling circumferences - I have had tyres from 2 diff manufs which, although the "same" size - were actually physically different.

How would you tell if the drive train is overloaded?
 
Ow I see, will tell him to get his ears tested just incase :p

Time now to order a rovertron box for myself and bill him for my time ;)

Trying using 4 x 4 tyres or tyres meant for SUV cause you will not like soft wall tyres which are meant for sedan cars.
 
He's now been down to the local tyre place and has spotted some A/T's he wants... There 215/80/15's will they fit on a stock car without any lifts and no rubbing?

I don't think they will but I've been wrong before

Never know if the local fitters after making a quick buck or genuinly knows what he's talking about..

So yet again I'm asking the Guru's

Well thats good news then. I might have to get them put on my old spare set of 15" steelies....

Never had them rub even on full lock or off-roading?
