my defender 110 is 8 yrs old. never had a puncture or changed a tyre. i would like new tyres & alloys. 50% poor rural roads, 40% decent roads, 10% offroad. any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

tyres bf goodrich all terrain ;)
or general grabber all terrain (they have a good rep)

how come you want new alloys?

Frankly, if the tyres you have have been good, why change them? I mean, you need to change them for new ones, but not different types or sizes .. ;)

BFG AT's otherwise ... ;)

thanks gcoo & gilbo, i'll check these out

i have done searches but its all a bit confusing if u do not know so thats why i ask ye - the experts, the people who have driven land rovers and know best !

new alloys cos the original wheels have been eaten away by rust from the salty airs we live on the coast

if theyve rusted then they aint alloys, corroded maybe like a white powder?

Agreed, if alloy's are abused they will bubble. As for tyre's I can totally recommend General Grabber AT2's ... slightly less mileage than BFG's but they are a great tyre.

Definitely BFG AT. I invested in a set a few years ago which have now done 51,000 miles on my Discovery. I've just checked and they still have 8mm of tread left!

Can anyone better that?

Definitely BFG AT's. I invested in a set a few years ago @ £100 each they have now done 51,000 miles and still have 8mm of tread left. They are great tyres and I have no complaints.

Can anyone beat this?

Sorry thought my first message had gone astray.

120k that will do me! My mileage is mostly on road and they have been an excellent tyre. I noticed an improvement in road holding immediately with less roll on corners. They were also great in the snow last winter.

As for wheels, depends what you want.... You could buy a set of modular steel wheels for £30-£40 quid a corner, which would fit the bill perfectly. They may need replaced in a good few years, but are strong and cheap.
You could buy a set of genuine Boost alloys of Ebay or similar, for about £300-400, which would make the Defender look neat, and would probably last wuite well too.

You could go to silverline 4x4 and buy a set of Blindo Wheels - around £800 a set, made specifically for the MOD to fit to the army/RM land rover WMIKs and Snatches. Theyre super strong, relatively light, and look awesome. Plus, if you hit a land mine on the way to the shops, the wheels will shatter, and not sent big chunks of shrapnel into you and your Defender!

Depends on your wallet, and preference.

At the end of the day, it its the right size and the right rating, and it's round, it'll do just fine!
