Tyres - P38a 18" - Please advise so can order...

I've asked this before but never got an answer. Don't they sell Yokohama in the UK? Because if they did I would heartily reccomend them. Top of the line Japanese brand, properly manufactured in Japan unlike Bridgestone and others which can come from just anywhere. I'm on the Yokohama Geolandar AT/S. They are quiet, the ride is perceptibly more planted and smoother and longevity so far is pretty good.

I did look for Geolanders as i had them on my Forester and they were brilliant but i don't think they come in 18" 255 as i did search.

Cheapest Grabbers i've seen are Camskill at £134.

In terms of tyre pattern and brand, yes Pirelli Scorpion ST's were original fitment, but are getting rarer than hen's teeth. I managed to pick up a couple new old stock on ebay a few months back but haven't seen any since. The STR's that were supposed to be a direct replacement seem to be rubbish on P38's from all the posts around here, so it needs to be something else.... you pays your money and takes your choice but there's plenty of people on here running a wide variety and their opinions worth reading cause the outcomes seem to be quite consistant.

I am running on Bridgeston Dueler H?P Sport (18") they are not as quiet as the Dueler H/L Alenza but they have better great for my needs (road LOL) and strangely they behaved very well on snowy roads (links below)

I have Michelin Latitude cross and have done 30000 mile on them and this is the second time in Mongolia with them. I have just put them through a lot of muddy roads and also sandy tracks and sharp rocks .
One got spiked in Russia and had to be replaced but the other 3 are still going strong I did post some photos on an earlier thread and will post some more at a later date

When I bought mine it had Nexen's (Goodyear) on the rear and Barum (Continetal) on the front and they were pants load of life left but getting the P38 on opposite lock on a roundabout made me open the wallet

I have GG the new AT and I very happy, they are quiet it doesn't seem to tramline and the ride is not overly harsh.

I remember being told by a Tyre rep some years ago that the main difference between the big brands and their second line names is all about the age of the technology used, which makes sense, so you buy a new cheapy and it's basically a 5/10 year old tyre interms of construction and compound so your current Pzero's in 10 year will be sold as a Ceat or Courier.

All i know about this thread is that anyone who voted for 255/60/18 is a dickhead, because they are the wrong profile and your speedo will be illegal.

My P38 on 255/55/18 is the first car that the speedo reads correct when compared to TomTom which I am led to believe is pretty accurate.

My Astra is doing 65mph when it's speedo reads 70mph

You need to look at the EU tyre ratings, many of what you call second line tyres have better wet grip than the big names and run quieter using less fuel. I fitted Wanli on the rear of the Transit, less than half the price of the Firestones they replaced and it will actually move on wet grass also the rear does not try to come round on wet roundabouts.

on the first Vauxhall Victor customers complained about the top speed so the factory fix for that was to fit a weaker spring to the speedo
