Hi all, right been offroading in my disco with 235/70 BF Goodrich AT's tyres on and great untill you into the really wet and deep mud and i end up grounded happend again today just spinning. I do have a set of old defender steel wheels 205's. Now the question how good are the thinner wheels (205's) off road? iv heard thin wheels are good! thinking about getting a set of Kingpin amazon or MT for the old defender wheels. Any help greatly appreciated as today while stuck someone on a lesson in a defender just drove past me with ease!

Any help anyone? is 205's with kingpin tyres any good? if not whats the maximum size you can put on a disco without raising it or cutting arches etc? Cheers

I think 245/70/16 should go on ok - they are slightly broader than standard ones. May have to adjust steering stops depends on your wheel offsets

I am trying to remember what I guy i met the other day had it may have been 245/75/16 but he had extended bump stops fitted but didnt need to cut his arches.

I belive wider tyres are better than thinner ones due to more of the tyre being in contact with the ground therefore more tread to get a grip or spread the weight over a greater area and mean you dont sink in as much.

Did you get grounded (ie too low so underneath got grounded in the mud (wheel or 2 off the ground) or was simply tyres in the mud but not grippipng enough?)).

Taller tyres will give you more clearance. Maybe consider a suspension lift. As for the Defender driving past they could have been in low with difflocked or could have lockers fitted or just kept momentum up or maybe lifted. Standard discos are amazing vehicles even when compared to defenders and least you get a heater to dry your carpet out with
