Yes indeed, as they recommend other sizes for fitment to other sized rims that also fall outside the recommendations on the site i posted. But they will be within the spectrum of the vehicles type approval certificate for construction and use regulation purposes. Fitting odd sized none recommended tyres to road vehicles can render them illegal as far as those regs go. Fitting tyres with a larger rolling radius that those recommended will almost certainly render the speedometer illegal. Some day VOSA and our friends the police are going to have a bloody field day.

I don't see why you see it as an extreme degree? The Simex Extreme Trekker tread (aka "Insa Turbo's" ) is about the most common off road biased MT tread fitted to Land Rovers. The Avon Ranger is a pretty common fitment tyre to Land Rover's too. And the other off road tyre I run myself, hence posting it. Leaving only one of those tyres as unlikely for Land Rover fitment.

We're obviously not going to agree on anything, so I'm out!

Well that's started somthing , I'm off to have a chat with my local tyre fitter tomorrow and see what he's got.

So, according to you then the width figure of a tyre is an arbitrary dimension which has no bearing on a real tyre.
So taking that to the next step the sidewall height is a percentage of an arbitrary dimension which has no bearing on a real tyre and the only definite measurement is the "old english" diameter of the rim.
So, in other words, who cares what tyre you stick on your vehicle as long as it's round and it's got the biggest knobbly bits you can find all over it, or called an Insa Turbo.
You might like to go across the fields to your local supermarket, or keep a Land Rover just as a muddy plaything, some of us have to use our Land Rovers year long on the road too.

Not really sure what you are getting at, or why you are getting your knickers in a twist over it.

But I only said I know of no "standard" for how width is measured. Never said anything of the sort about ignoring width.

As for sizes, you were posting 7.50 x 16 and 6.00 x 16. Maybe you meant rim, but those are tyre sizes and ones that happen to be standard fitment for many a Land Rover.

Yes, I was talking about rim sizes, I even bolded the text in one post.
The statements I was making referred mainly to road orientated tyres (90%/10% road use to off road), although I'll never understand this love affair with remould tyres (Insa Turbos are remoulds aren't they?) having had some bad experiences with remoulds in the past.
Neither did I say anything about ignoring the width, but as you've just said you know of no standard for how width is measured, so logically you know that the sidewall height is a percentage of a figure which has no standard to its measurement.
As you say, I hope the OP found out all he wanted to know, and probably some he had no intention of learning.
Don't expect a "kiss and make up", but how about an "agree to differ" sometimes and a handshake?
