I have recently picked up a new set of rims for my 2A and i would like to get a slightly wider tyre.
I was wondering if anybody could recommend how wide a tyre i can use without putting excess strain on the axles?

on SWB or LWB 750's were the largest factory option unless you have a one ton or military chassis with extended hangers where 900's will fit.

In practicle terms 235/85 is about as big as you can go before you need to put on eyebrows on the wings

as has been said above. it depends what rims you've got as to your choice

standard swb 5" rims will take 600's and some 225's
lwb 5.5" rims will take 750's
for 235/85 better to have 6.5" rims
900's must be 6.5" rims

Thanks for the reply.
What i was getting at with my original question is that i wanted a wider tyre but i do not want to add to much strain on the rear axles.
I have seen some really wide tyres on series Rovers but i would be hesitent in doing this myself as i don't want to be replacing axles regulary.
What would you say would be the widest you would safely go?

why do you want wide tyres?? they int really that good fer most orf roading.
Well the new rims are slightly wider than stock and i have been told that i would get a better ride with a wider tyre like a desert dueller or something similar.
In all curiosity what do you think would be the widest tyre the vehicle could handle without causing axle breakages?
