can anybody tell me why my book says the tyres should be 30 (2ltr diesel) but when they are at these pressure they look slightly flat and have the problems of **** steering control ... feel like i'm driving a tank !!

TYRE PRESSURES WERE OFFICIALLY REDUCED TO 26psi SOME TIME AGO BUT WERE PUT BACK UP TO 30psi LATER. ( ALL ROUND )

"Officially" as in that is Land Rover's recommendation?

My manual says 26 psi and that is what I am using, but does this mean I should be running at 30 psi? Mine is a 51-plate Td4 ES 5-dr on 16" wheels. Tyres (from memory) are Goodyear Wrangler HP 215/65R16

fink it depends on wot tyres yer usin. . .fink it twas willo who uped his ta 32 psi . . .i did the same on michelen syncrones for normal road use , and found that 34psi seemed best. . . .:)

Does this higher pressure cause your tyres to wear faster in the centres?? Anyone done a long term test at 30PSI??. I'm tempted to increase mine now, but need to keep wear equal and not rapidly across the centre section.

My FL is a 1998 2L DI with 17" alloys and I noticed that the tyres looked flat and handled poor on 30 PSI. I upped it to 32 front 34 rear and it looks better, handles better and having now covered about 5000 miles since uping pressure, I cant say that iv noticed any excess wear around the centre of the tyres.
The book pressure says 30 I think, but that was for 15" steelies. I cant imagine what it would have looked like with those tiny wheels in those huge arches though!

Yes, I put 32 psi (2.2 bar) in and have done 56.000+ kms with it, when doing highway (as yesterday) I even increase to 2.3 bar.

ok , so ive been to ats and used there callibrated airline. all the pressures were all over the place...
ive set them to 26psi all round. seem a hell of alot quieter. steering not much diffance seems to hold the road better. ( More surface area???)

i try a 32 psi next week and see if its any diffance:)

As far as I can remember it was forPre 2001/2 vehicles.

mine were at 26 but thought the steering was heavy asked around a few lads and what i remember from having a few landys before took mine up to 34 steering fine now and i have done over 9000 miles tyre wear is also fine
1.8 2001 5 door.

I've got mine at 30psi all round but having read this thread I might increase them, this is probably a bone question but why do the tyres say max psi 51?

I haven't had my 99T 1.8 station wagon long (about 4000 miles), but as i do a lot of motorway work set them to 32 p.s.i. all round. They don't look as flat and shouldn't wear unevenly at that pressure.

I remember reading CAR magazine years ago and one of the regulars, the late LJK Setright, always used to pump his car's tyres up above recommended pressures, sometimes by quite a lot, to imrove handling and economy.

I might set them to 33 next time I do a pressure check!

Thats the maximum they can safely take (when cold). As you drive they warm up and the pressures increase slightly. Tyre manufacturers test and find a maximum recommended pressure.

Also remember that tyres are fitted to a variety of makes and models, so pressures vary for each application.

The max is quoted so that tyres are not inflated too much. This reduces the chance of a blow out. (Bear in mind that Lorry's inflate to 120PSI and Vans can have 60PSI)

I set mine at 32 rear and 32 front, does that sound ok?

The tyres always look flat though, but i think its due to the tyres, they are Avon Rangers or something, they were on when i bought the car, i think they must have weak sidewalls maybe.

They have been set to 32/34 for about 5K miles now and they seem better, but should i up the fronts to the same? All tyres are about the same tread depth.

35-40 seems quite high

Mine are now at 33PSI all round, that seems to be a good pressure.

And i got the tracking done at the weekend, it was way out, toeing out, it feels so much better to drive now, and the tyres dont look as flat as they arnt being pulled from the rim.

I noticed when i had 34 all round that the back tyres started to wear in the middles slightly more, so i put them to 33 all round.

These cars seem very sensitive to pressure. The tyres that are on are badly worn on the edges, probably from running at too low pressure, now with a bit too much pressure they wear the centres.

Ill be glad when these tyres are worn out though, and i can get some new goodyears :)

well its hot in Qatar so the readout is slightly higher as you'd expect, but even when my PG says 35 they still look a bit flat.. when its too low you can feel it wallow (more than usual).
