Hello all.

First a confession as I could not find a good freelander in my area for the money I had I ended up getting a Nissan XTRAIL I hope you wont hold it against me.

I have been looking for a tyre that will be good on road fair on dirt tracks and fields and have low road noise , I know you will get some road noise but some tyres seem to make alot more noise than others and looking at the tread patterns there does not seem to be that much difference.

The reason for the question is that I took the xtrail back to the garage I got it from thinking it had a wheel bearing on the way out and it turned out it was the rear tyres, they had worn into a feather edge or saw tooth pattern and according to the engineer it is a common thing on 4x4 especialy the xtrail and freelander and you should rotate the tyres from side to side every service, this is something I never knew about.

Also back to the tyre noise dose anyone have any recommendations in the £80 a corner price range.

I used to have an XTrail and used Pirelli Scorpions on it. Similar use, as I work on the mobile phone masts on hillsides.

You do know that X-Trails have their issues too?

Assuming its one of the 2.2 Diesels (136bhp) then there was a recall to address the boost sensor and a few other bits. If that wasnt done the Turbo went early.

Then I read the 06 plates (I think) had a issue with hesitation that Im not sure was ever fixed.

I had an 04 plate and the turbo failed just as they were coming to the bottom of it so had to have a new turbo and Cat as well as the recall work done.

Was good off road though!

me old mans x trail has just been in hopkins again, 2.5k worse off. Clutch is made of cat poop.

The one I have is a 04 2.2dci but it has done 125000 miles, it has been well looked after at a main dealer so I should think any recalls have been done and there is no sign of turbo problems.

I have heard the pirelli are good and the avons at that price are well worth a look thanks for the replies.

Not sure if I will keep it long term as I do like the discovery as it seems to be easy to get parts and to work on, I also like the size of the boot which is where my old Freelander used to fall down.

and lastly with poeple like you guys to answer questions on the landrovers a person should never get stuck with a problem for to long.:D
