Ive just got my car back from having tyres done, dont know why i didnt check there, but just looked at home.

I have 255/60/ 18 tyres fitted.. Is that going to cause any issues as the manual says they should be 255/55/ 18

Just want to know how much of an issue i need to raise with the said garage.

Really, as thats over a 3% increase in the size of tyre. I thought it wasnt recommended to go above 2ish%..

Will it effect economy or performance at all??

At 30 mph indicated you will be doing 31 mph actual at 60 mph indicated you will be doing 62.1 mph. Why did you have the wrong tyres fitted?

Do you know what size was fitted before? As Landrover have been known to use 255/55/18 and 255/60/18 depending on spec level.

At 30 MPH indicated the true road speed is probably going to be closer to 25-27MPH.. under EU law, it would be illegal for a car manufacturer to provide a vehichle for public consumption that the speedo over-reads. so manufacturers to give themselves some wiggle room under-read the actual speed.

4.4. The speed indicated must never be less than the true speed. At the speeds specified for the test in 4.3.5 above and between these speeds, there shall be the following relationship between the speed indicated on the dial of the speedometer (V1) >PIC FILE= "T0007661" [mathematical Formulae]>

Just wait until you have to either put a wheel into the wheel well in the boot ,or take one out of it . an 18 inch wheel with a 60 profile can be a tight fit .

Nop as i quoted earlier. If standard tyre is 255/55 x 18 and you fit 255/60 x 18. Actual speed will be 3.5% faster that speed indicated. 31 @ 30 indicated and 62.1 @ 60 indicated. Which makes the car illegal if it was made in or after i think 2001. Vehicles before that could be +- 10% at 30 mph. That is why speed cameras are set at 30 + 10% + 2 mph. Or 35 mph before activation.

Correct. Standard tyre sizes for P38 are 255/65 x 16" or 255/55 x 18".

Just refer them to the handbook. Standard size 255/55 x 18". They have to admit being wrong. Because they are. :):)

err yep, the incorrection is printed right on the side of the tyre wall.

255/55/18=p38 range rover
255/60/18=l322 range rover
take it back and tell them to fit the correct tires, dont fit the spare if you have a puncture

255/60/18 also on D2.

Tyre garages only have casings (scrap tyres) collected weekly or fortnightly. Ask to see your old tyres. Don't let them fob you of with "don't know which ones they are". As a set of 18inch 4x4 tyres will stand out, it's not the sort of tyre you fit more than one set a day.
