Hi all, got 255/55/18 G'year Wranglers on me Disco, been ok, inherited with the car, now on their way out. Only offroading I do is when camping and that's pretty lightweight stuff compared to most on here...

Anyway, do I:

1. Shell out on same tyre again, or...

2. Seen some Grabber UHP's for about £100 quid cheaper

3. Anyone got any tyres that stand out as great value / price / performance?

Never had any budget tyres before, always stuck to big brands, so any advice is appreciated!

Have had a look at threads on here but most seem to be about max size and purely off-road capability, if you know of a good thread, would appreciate that, too.

I'm on my third set of BFG AT's .. last set were sold @ 25000 miles with 8mm still on all the treads, got £250 on ebay ... makes BFG's a budget tyre .. ;)

If you're staying mostly on road Pirelli Scorpians are superb on road and pretty chunky for a bit of off road.

My Goodyear Wrangler AT/s are barely more chunky than my Pirellis were.

Those are what my P38 has. They are a road tyre, there is no way they would be any good off road. So what about these Genral AT2s? Anyone got them, they should be a good tyre if they last like the Genral Grabber, they have a similar tread to the BFG AT. Found them for £85 a corner in 265/75 R16 which is the size my Defender has.

Thanks lads, some good info there. I've been looking around for a couple of days and Camskill seem to be the cheapest I can find. Anyone know of anyone cheaper?

Another question for you, I like the look of the BFG AT but can't find it in 255 55 18.

So, what's the biggest size I can put on standard 18" Disco alloys? Or is this a piece of string / can of worms?

I've had 750 R16 Goodyear Wranglers on my SIII and I've done loads of miles greenlaning all over Wales on them. It's a bit more of a challenge greenlaning on all terrain tyres like this (which makes it more fun), but they last very well, behave well on the road and don't cut the trails up. I've seen a 110 with BF Goodrich ATs really struggling to get up a steep wet gravelly climb that vehicles with other similar tyres (including mine) got up with ease.
