TWO failed thermostats in 2 months ??

Let it cool right down, give it several hours and then take the header tank cap right off. You should see a small hole inside the neck. This is where I'm looking for a stream of coolant / dribble. It's only a small hole and hard to see so best wait till morning light.

Ok, I get it now. Will do in the morning and post another video for you to have a look at.....

Cheers.

heres mine boys. info might help sorry no vids just pics.

1, from cold slight flow whilst choke is on, then when choke comes off no flow until revs raised to 800-1000 rpm (header tank marker level normal)

2, 1/4 temp no flow until revs raised to 800-1000 rpm & no steam visible (header tank level marker slightly raised)

3, full temp no flow until revs raised to 800-1000 rpm & no steam visible (header tank level marker raised)

pic 1 when cold
pic 2 is flow when revs are raised to 800-1000 rpm
pic 3 when hot

Great vid will have to check mine.....that is once i have been recovered back home by the RAC......

Fecking stat seems to have failed, top hose hot and solid, bottom hose cool and softish...

Parts places closed, sitting in a petrol station on my ipad, looking like a lost sheep, no tools or i'd whip the stat off, rip out the internals and be on my way.....feck feck feck....

Gull, that vid was awesome. No doubts about what going on there, thanks very much for that. Saint, there has to be something here. We have identical issues. What's the history of your stat / pump. Didn't you change the pump a while back ?
Just found the receipt for mine, it was a Mehle bought through our favorite auction site.

Damn man...that's not good!
Hmmm...I'm thinking it may be a good idea to carry a spare stat and coolant...
In fact it may be a good idea to convert the boot area into a spares section!😜

What was it you were saying Saint? "..point and laugh as we share your misery!" 😜

my pump/thermostat was changed over 3 years ago, the parts were supplied & fitted by stratstone bushbury landrover(pump receipt says £107 so not expensive imo),but recently when plugged in the thermostat heating element reads faulty so genuine parts don't last too long either,i wont take a chance on anything except genuine must order 1 soon thinking about it.

Back now....

GullH: so go on then point and laugh :D:D:D it is all part of Range Rover ownership, take it on the chin!

May be it was pee'd off as I was on my way back from Wyboston (Befordshire) to pick up a Bull Bar for the P38...maybe it was jealous I was lavishing the other one!

Rewmer: Pump changed in Jan 2013 with a Mehle and the stat was done around July 2012 after I had curious temp readings! Rad then changed about 18 months ago and then again the day before our holiday a coupld of weeks ago...then on Hols, had overheat again, planned to change the VC fan and the stat, but the spares place couldn't get a stat to the IoW before the end of the hols so didn't change it....then there was no issue for 10-12 days and had a huge overheat again with a pressurised system a few days ago, then rebled the system and all seemed well, until today....and no matter what I tried in the petrol station forecourt, I poured 6 litres of coolant in, ran her up and then 2 minutes later while bleeding her, she then bubbled over violently in the expansion tank and I then filled another 6 litres of water in only to do the same....then I checked the hoses, top hose hot and firm, bottom hose cool and softish!

Will: Photo for you! Recovery guy was great, friendly bloke, knows his mustard and then we spent 20 minutes going through his photos on his phone of all the high end motors he has had on his truck including a D class Jag, a 30's blower Bentley, some of Italys finest hyper cars, a few plod wagons and a stunning and I mean immaculate Ferrari California....think it was the one owned by Chris Evans......this thing was stunning!

rewmer & saint strange you both have the same brand pump & same probs. tbh mehle are a excellent brand(well my freezer at home is) but this day & age its sadly prob a copy & you both fell for it,happened to a friend of mine with a genuine bmw cam sensor not long ago failed miserably after a week purchased off the bay of e(was a copy couldn't tell even the box was good)got a replacement from dealers problem solved, always go & collect genuine parts from dealers direct its worth it in the long run imo. remember the golden rule "buy cheap buy twice",l322s wont tolerate many if any overheats & could end up a serious money outlay so be carefull guys & good luck keep us posted.

Glad you're sorted mate.
I'm sure you'll 'get your own back' when I'm stuck😜
Keep us posted as to how you get her back on the road mate.👍

He will be busy tomorrow otherwise the missus will be taking the P38 on Monday.:)

Yep if I can't effect a temp fix of ripping the internals out of the current stat....I have a few options...

Option 1: She drives the P38 and I'll drive my 735

Option 2: She drives the 735 and I drive the P38

Option 3: She drives the Fiat 500 (will need tax and insurance) and I drive the P38

Option 4: She drives the Fiat 500 and I drive the 735

Option 5: THERE IS NO WAY I AM DRIVING A BRIGHT YELLOW FIAT 500 so there is no Option 5!!
