Two cretinous questions

These are two pretty naive ones I know, but a simple answer (or two) would be great. Feel free to rip the pash though :D

1. If you drive into a ford/ flooded area with a 90 (it's a TD5) fitted with a snorkel to tow out a vehicle, is engine idle speed (whilst you wade out to attach tow ropes and things) sufficient to keep the exhaust clear?

and

2. If, for whatever reason the engine should stall, is a re-start possible when the exhaust is sumberged, or is it a big no-no?

+1. depends a lot on whether the snorkel has been fitted properly or just bolted on, which most are.
 
I'm thinking really in terms of a stall whilst the exhaust is submerged - i.e. not enough RPM and/or incorrect gear/range to get started properly resulting in a stall and necessitating a re-start whilst submerged. Is there a decent chance of water ingress via the exhaust which would make a attempt at re-start whilst submerged a daft idea?

I have no reason to doubt the snorkel - I think that's fine. I'm thinking really in terms of the exhaust.

I'd just like to have this knowledge before such an event happens.

In that case a quick restart would be prudent as you would be pushing water ingress through the exhaust away. But you would want to be confident that your snorkel side is really as sealed as you believed it to be.
 
Surely it wouldn't matter as long as the water hadn't gone above the maniflold in which it would go into the engine if it wasn't above the maniflold it would only go up a bit of the exhaust if you know what I mean lol

Yes, but the quicker you restart the less water and the attendant resistance you have to deal with and it does depend on your faith that the induction side really is water sealed!
 
As long as ur snorkel is ok drop iot in low range and if u do get out find a weight for throttle .. Tha chances of it stalling in low range even towing are slim
 
surely you get the numpty to attach the towrope to his car , then drive in so he can drop the loop in the end of the rope over your towball . that way you dont go paddling and stay in control of yer revs,
 
Your egg sauce has a kink over the axle aswell so this will help keep water away from the engine.

As has been said start it again quickly.
