Hi all, I'm new on today and I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place, I have a Freelander V6 2002, which I use to tow a caravan. I managed to find the plug in elecs etc when I fitted tow bar last year no problem. We are off to France in the Summer and I need to add the TWIN ELECS for fridge, My question is basically 'Is there a simple way of adding these as like the plug in single'? If not how difficult would it be to wire up and how.

Hi Dave & welcome to the forum.

The short answer to your question is no, I am not aware of a simple method of 'plugging in' the supplementary electrics (and I checked before I wired up mine).

I wired mine, by using a self switching or voltage sensing if you prefer, 'smart' relay behind the LHD trim panel in the boot. From here, run a wire under the trim down the left hand side of the car, underneath the trim panels on the door sills (plenty of space here) until you end up in the front passenger footwell area. Working under the bonnet, if you slide your hand behind the battery, under the air box towards the bulkhead you will find the main wiring loom going through the bulkhead. I threaded a coat hanger through the rubber gaiter by the loom and pulled my towing electrics cable back through from the car to the engine compartment. Bit fiddly, but not difficult with a bit of patience.

From here on in, simply terminate your cable at the battery positive, remembering to put a fuse in line of course, and wire up your relay in the boot as per its instructions. Like where you ran the 12N cable on the other side, similarily there is a nice big rubber grommet on the LHS you can pass the 12S cable through to the towbar.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Dave

Hello Dave there is a EU standard on wiring, if you have two sockets (N type and S) have look at the standard, Towbar Electrics

Give us a shout if you need any more help,
