Hey guys. I would like to know if its possible to run a TVR V8 motor on a Defender. Do you know anybody that has performed such an engine swap. For example a TVR Cerbera 4.2 V8 makes 360 bhp where the 4.5 is good for 420 bhp. This is serious power and these engines are not very expensive at all. More importantly is that all of these TVR V8 motors are based on the classic V8 land rover engine.

I know the tvr motor generates huge amount of power and torque. What is the strongest tranny on the Defender / Range Rover range that can handle the extra power? Is this the only problem?

Guys you are not helping out at all!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, so you expect dozens of considered, technical answers, within an hour of posting, on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday, when everyone is at the beach, do you?

It's a bad idea.
No LR transmission, that will fit a Fender, will handle that sort of power and torque, without you spending £000's upgrading it.

could you use a TVR gearbox and then uprate everything else. Its gonna blow the **** out of any normal landrover transmission, maybe some bowler bits could help you out. gonna go like **** off a shovel if you can stop bits exploding.

I've Hurd of this too a mate seen an old 90 with a TVR engine pull out of a junction sideways
That is just too cool

right the big power tvr motors were made by AJP racing and not related to the rover V8 the '50' edition defenders used the 5.0L version of the rover V8 as used in the griffith 500,

its not BHP that kills gearboxes its torque

the more you tune the rover engine the more fragile it becomes if you really want big power look away from the rover engine and towards the 5.0l ford or the LS1 chevy (found in loads of stuff like the holden hsv etc) the base model ls1 comes out of the box with 380bhp and can be tuned to in excess of 1000 bhp when was the last time you heard of a rover v8 with more than 380 bhp without spending thousands and thousands of pounts on it
