Honestly, built in satnavs are a bad joke after a year or two. The updates are way overpriced, if they're still available. Map apps on a smartphone or similar are much better. That said, I generally prefer to keep my head unit stock, as they usually integrate vehicle functions. The Freelander one didn't, and I changed it, but the Kenwood replacement is bad and trying to use the map app with the screen mirroring or the Bluetooth audio connection on that thing is not a good experience.

Not if it's updated.
I paid £25 for the 2019 map disc, which comes with a software update too.
They are, but not if it means having my phone stuck on some crappie mount in the windscreen.
I prefer to keep it stock too, but yes the FL2 doesn't have the Terrain Response on the screen, like the larger LRs, but I do fancy installing the reverse camera system, which can be useful when maneuvering in tight spaces.

I suppose it takes up the space of 10 CDs, but that's nothing.
My Alpine HU has 6 disc capacity, and each of those discs can have hundreds of songs saved as MP3s, so I can't see why more space is needed.
I've 3 kids, ok they're getting older now, so spend there time on smart devices, but I've never needed hundreds of tracks of music in the car, as the journey simply isn't long enough to listen to them all. Maybe if I were driving the Pan America Hi way, but not much need in the UK.

The main issue with removing the screen, is that it's integrated into the car electronics system. This means messing with CCFs and putting in MOST ring loops and all manor of other messing about.
The FL2 is an extremely complex vehicle, which has a full complement of 3 different speed data busses running around the place. If one component on a data bus is missing, it throws a wobbler for every other component on that data bus.
So basically it's not easy to remove or change parts of the vehicle, as almost everything is integrated into everything else.

I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just not so easy as pulling it out.
If you actully don't want the sat nav, it's probably easier to sell the vehicle and buy a lower spec, which doesn't have the sat nav from the factory. A lower spec vehicle will be cheaper too, so you could buy a new lower spec for the same money.

I have the superior LR entertainment system installed in mine - it even has a radio, cassette deck and a display on the top of the dash that doesn't display anything other than a few dots.
If you remove the extra superior option - don't throw away the bits, keep them cos if you sell the car on it might make it easier to sell or even add a bit to what you'll sell it for.
