Hi

2003 TD5 following journey of 200 miles notice distinct lack of performance on acceleration and turbo not activating no other issues driven ok just lack of usual oomph. Looked at various posts and checked all hoses not splits or damage. At first start up and first acceleration turbo does kick in as normal after that nothing.

Replaced wastegate modulator and this resulted in a massive improvement for first acceleration after which turbo not engaging.

Any ideas on my next move?

Many Thanks

Andy

Yes seems to be but not got mole grips for proper check

No Smoke

Car drives fine just lack of oomph.

Just drove back 220 miles no prob

so, when you say "turbo not engaging" you saw that the wastegate arm doesnt move or you just suppose it's not engaging as it doesnt have guts under load...cos it's a big difference.

anyway the shortest way to an answer is to read some live data of it

Check all pipes to turbo to ensure no leaks. Have someone put revs on do you can feel for leaks. Had same issue on my 300tdi

When you say you have checked the pipes - have you looked inside to see if they have de-laminated/collapsed?

Thanks for replies guys no leaks on revving also all pipes removed and checked no obvious leaks or other issues on pipes.

Seems to reset itself when car has been turned off or a while and on initial start and first acceleration turbo engages after which nothing. Thought over boost hence why I changed waste gate activator.

I'm staying between Chippenham an reading at moment anyone near those to places with a hawk eye or similar that could plug in?

Many thanks

Andy

Are you sure its not misfiring? The only fault i know that always resets when you turn the engine off is the notorious oil in red plug thing. Easy to check, its the red plug that goes into ECU next to battery.

I had the same problem and it turned out the air filter had blew out and it would not go above 3000 rpm !! Just a thought and defo a check !!
