Have any of you had anything to do with the Turbo Technics single conversions?
Where these any good?
Do they knock out the bottom ends of the engines? WHat life can one exxpect from a Turbo'd engine?:welcome2:

less life....more power means more stress on the engine and it will wear out quicker. I think the turbo technics conversion was a bolt on modification so the std compression ratio was used, you wont be able to run much boost pressure without the engine knocking its head off and melting things that may be important like the pistons.

A turbo charged engine from the factory should last as long as any other engine if its looked after.

Having said that if i found a technics conversion for my 3.9 at the right money i'd fit it and see what happens....you can never have enough power, good luck with it :)

From Memory, Turbo Technics did a twin Turbo version kit for the V8, but it wasn't intercooled and it ran rather hot....... they went for a bigger single blower and intercooler and got something that worked pretty reasonably, but cost / performance, it was a bit of a do-do, people got similar power from more conventional tuning, with less side effects.....
But that was twenty oddd years ago!
With modern Turbo-know-how, hybrid blowers, fuel injection and efficient inter-coolers, may be a completely different story.
So I dont know, really!
If you are lloking at an 'old' turbo conversion taken off a dead engine, then I'd be asking why it was dead!
If you are looking to do a brand new 'built' motor or conversion, then I'd be weighing up the sales blurb and comparing it to stuff in the reel-steel or PRi catalogue, then talking to some-one like Roland at ACR or the Turners.......

Give 'Boosted' Mike a bell at BPPE. He currently working on a turbocharged system for TVRs were cooling even at standered is usually marginal. he seems confidant that with his set-up he has overcome these issues though.

He has a good reputation for building strong, reliable RV8s and Chevy LS's for drag racing and endurance racing, so I'm sure he knows his stuff. Nice bloke too. Website below.....
