Trying to improve things

Hi guys,

Been having few performance issues lately so had a good few hours on the old girl 300tdi disco this afternoon.
Removed and cleaned out inlet manifold
Fitted new turbo hoses
Fitting de cat pipe tomorrow
Tappets set
New fuel filter
Cleaned out sedimentor

Having the timing belt done at the end of the week

Is there anything simple and cheap I can do myself while I'm on??

what about turning up the fuel pump?

Did that around 12 months ago but not sure if that's causing some of the issues. It's black smoking at the top end, was thinking of turning diaphragm anti clock or adjusting smoke screw? Wat do you guys think?

Your list sounds good. How about new air filter? If that's done and still no improvement, then it sounds like a blocked up cat - so do the decat and that problem will go away. Remember you need to jack the chassis, not the axle, to swing it in.

Fitted new air filter around 6 weeks ago so should be sweet, lookin forward to fitting de cat n taking her for a spin tomorro!
Does anyone have a detailed instruction for fitting the decat??

Ditch the EGR and get a Performance Air Filter.

I ditched the EGR, de cat and fitted one of these to mine and it made a world of difference.

I did the decat last week, its like falling off a log. 5 bolts to undo/do up. You will need a couple of extension bars to make it easy - and don't just yank them off, soak them in WD40 or proper penetrating fluid etc. Jack the car up by the chassis, not the axle, to make enough room to get the old one out and the new one in.

It came up recently with a long thread on it, worth searching for & reading etc.

Where has the de-Cat pipe been all my life! marked improvement in bottom end performance!
More than happy. Performace air filter should be coming tomorrow and timing belt change on thursday, hopefully things will only get better!

Did my decat two weeks ago, didn't need to jack the car up but I have got a 2" lift on it.

have done all the above mods to my disco and turned up the boost and fueling has made a massive difference to her also put some terrafirma silicone turbo hoses on a big improvement again, but still want more so big allisport intercooler is in the post.
also changed head gasket and had head skimmed and valves all ground in, it runs lovely, cant wait for big intercooler to come though ;-)
