try out a defender?

hi all, im 17 years old and about to take my driving test, i want to get a defender (the insurance doesnt seem TOO bad compaired to 'normal' first cars) but i want to drive one of about the same age and condition that il be looking for before i comit myself to buying one. i know they are supposed to be sheds on wheels, but, are they really that bad? does anyone know any way i could have a go? :D or is anyone in or near birmingham nice enough to let me have a little drivee?:D:D:D:D:D:D
 
shed's on wheels!!! i don't think everyone will be very happy nor will thay be willing to let you drive there pride an joy calling them sheds on wheels this is a land rover forum.

Like driving a car, except, not... heavy clutch, tricky gear change (if you're not used to it) uncomfortable ride, vague steering and lots of noise are all par for the course. I doubt many people will want to let you have a go, with no license and no insurance...

:5biagree: Just BEWARE once you drive a Landy no other vehicle will suffice;)

i have access to just over 100 acres of a friends land which i shoot on, so the license / insurance wouldnt be a problem..

Hey, if you can drive and have access to 100 acres of land (lucky you!) and have been driving off road for five years, I would guess that you could afford to pay to do a Land Rover experience driving day.

I assume that coming onto a forum as a complete stranger (without even introducing yourself I might add!) that you have exhausted all other options already (i.e. no family, friends, friends of friends, or neighbours who have a Defender???)

What's up? wanna get a medal:clap2:?, driving off tarmac does not make you a competent driver on the roads where a LZ member will let you loose in there pride and joy:eek:. Hopefully you'll get ur LR, but calling them "shed's on wheels" won't get you any rides form this forum:doh::doh:

Yeah another important point - joyriding a Defender around a muddy field will tell him NOTHING about how it drives on tarmac, on real roads.
 
Sheds on wheels ? what a cheek ! think it says it all about Ben boy hey guys ,show some respect before you ask the earth i would say .

land rover experience driving day? sound like my best option, i thought i had posted a hello in the introduce yourself last week but ive just looked at it isnt there (sorry HELLO!!) it seems i have upset all of landy zone :(
