parked in a different place this week , nose up instead if nose down (hill that is.
Nose down first contact gives a clean start
Nose up, fires does a few revs and stops then its a few serious turns if the key and she first , but takes a while to run properly ( sounds as if choked or short of fuel)
No leaks, deisel or air aparantly,
Lifter pump?
Last one was a few years ago and it was from Britparts!
Any help appreciated

I believe there should be a one way valve on the fuel line. I read somewhere that this is supposed to stop fuel flowing back to the tank when the vehicle is facing uphill and fix the problem you are describing.

it's probably going to be a fuel pipe that's letting in air or as discussed, the fuel filter.

Have you checked the spill return pipes as per this pic? Mine did the same, one was badly perished and leaking so I changed all 3 and it sorted it!

I can second this. Replace the leak off pipes between the injectors. Even if it is not leaking fuel it can be degraded enough to allow air in and fuel to drain back to the tank. the reason for the delayed starting is the fuel system has to re-prime before it will start. the leak off pipe pictures by @mojo247 is 8mm fuel pipe and is press fit so it is a very cheap and easy thing to replace to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks all for the advice.
Just a note the leak off pipes were replaced about 18 months ago and are fine, not the usual rubber but braided pressure pipe now.
Diagnosis,
Check all pipes and unions for leakage and 'tight to spec.
No issues identified
Fuel filter bleed released. Bolt removed
Lifter Pump primer used to pump fuel to top of filter threaded bleed hole.
Lifter Pumping stopped, in about 30 seconds the fuel level drops to the bottom of the bleed bolt threaded hole!!
Fuel filter replaced, not expensive so just a precaution, recheck all pipe unions check for tight, all ok.
Retest as above, still the same.
Fuel lifter pump replaced, retest as above no drop in level.
Lifter pump tested on the bench, does not retain pressure in the feed line when pumping stopped!!!!
So there must be one or two non return valves inside the lifter pump, it is a sealed unit so it has gone in the bin for recycling, ( must be similar to the one I had fail on my 127 Fiat (long time ago!!!)
Retest... proof of repair
Parked as before , nose up, tested over 4 days, fires up first turn of the key, uphill , downhill in her lady's chamber.......
Now to fix the clunky passenger side CV joint!!!!
