Hi everyone,
So, planning to do some work on my 1972 series 3 over Christmas. I have a tropical roof and all round it the paint is flaking and the spacers are crumbling.... basically it’s quite scabby looking. My plan is to remove the internal roof lining (and refurb the vents - existing rivets and screws have rotted) unbolt the Z-bar and I think I will then have to drill out quite a few rivets. Then sand and paint the main roof, reattach newly painted tropical roof with new spacers and sealing washers etc.
1st question. When I re-rivet the tropical roof to the z bars, do I have to worry about what material the rivet is made from; thinking about galvanic corrosion? Will standard general purpose rivets do?
2nd question. Anyone done this? What pitfalls do I face?
As usual, any help or advice greatly appreciated. I will attempt to take photos during the job.
Regards..... Marty.
