I am about to access the steering module on my 2008 Freelander2 HSE.

My first question, is removing the trim and airbag on the drivers side.
I don't want to damage anything clips retainers or airbag.

Anyone got any tips or where to find manual or instructions, car is not running (steering locked) so dont have time to browse internet.
Anyone know know if workshop manual includes trim removal and where to download.
Thanks

Stan

Are you sure you need to access the steering module?

The steering locked message is a common problem on the F2 and its often not related to the steering/lock components - eg just the battery dieing.

Well I checked the battery, and fully charged it, did not make any difference..
This happened a few months ago, and it sorted itself out. that time I was able to start the car by direct link from battery positive to starter solenoid, this time it started once enough to get me home, but now turns over but don't fire up anymore.
I been trying to find out instructions to remove the panel below the steering wheel without breaking clips etc.

Well I thought that I would, try the steering lock, as there is a warning "steering locked" but I am really operating in the dark, there is plenty of battery, my obd2 reader is clear...no codes.
In the past although the warning the steering locked was displayed, it would not start from the key but it would start via the started solenoid,
now it wont sat at all.
I have been told that if you remove the steering module, than it has to be -reprogramed.
my OBD reader Icarsoft although listing the module data stream has no mention of what that means or does
I intend posting to ask information on OBD2 software in another post.

The only diagnostic device/ programmer I'd use on a modern LR is the Gap Diagnostics IID in Bluetooth form. This will access and reprogram pretty much every module on in the vehicle.

Has the vehicle battery been totally disconnected to reset everything and has the docking key battery been replaced or spare docking key tried, simple reply I know but basics first also spray all associated multi plug connections with electrical contact cleaner, I had a sticking igniter switch on my new cooker and a spray with Holts contact cleaner sorted it.just a thought.

I have ordered a Toughbook, mongoose cable and JLR SSD software' at the moment I am looking at a specific problem, "Steering column locked" I will try and post on how I get on trying to resolve it.
in the meantime any help or advice would be greatly appreciated .

sorry for the delay in answering you, it suddenly cleared itself, I have got rid of the Freelander, for a 2011 Vouge nothing but pesky electronic problems spoils ownership

Thank you for your replies. I also thinking to keep or change. While this issue still there, I also had a power steering fluid leak, cost me £135. Both feed and return pipes were so rusty. Ideally would like to keep for another 2 years, but not sure if it will start falling apart.

FL2's are not that bad on reliability. Any car will need servicing and a certain amount of maintenance throughout its life, each year. A few hundred pounds of maintenance work per year on a car is to be expected. It's part of ownership. A lot depends on its mileage and how it's been treated in its life anorl.
