Very pleased with myself. After buying this 1984 110 in Oman....

.... and then driving it back to the UK...

I'm finally got round to giving it a new life...

So far I've....
1) Fitted heated seats and windscreen
2) Put in a 'new' 300tdi, gearbox and transfer box.
3) New foam and upholstery for the front seats

4) ... and then this week I made the car into a station wagon, it's original body type. It was a double cab pick up which I loved but wasn't practical for travelling around.

Managed to find a roof that suits the age of the car. Primed and painted it in the rain, in the house...

And a catflap door for the rear...

then the sides from an 88...

STILL TO DO....

Catflap rear tail gate:
Work out a seal for it. The proper one won't work as i need to close the top part first and then the bottom due to the rear wheel holder. So I'm drawing on bits of paper and seeing what stuff I have kicking around.
Also want to fit a gas strut for it to make it really easy.

Roll Cage:

It needs re-shapping to fit around the rear body which is wider and taller than the canvas back. So it's off the car at the moment and my welding skills will be tested come the spring. it's there for the roof top tent rather that anything off-road so it doesn't need to be too good. I might go forward with it - and bold to the windscreen to make it look neat and tidy. Not sure yet.

Now that the rear is all one piece rather than a separate unit, I can rebuild the storage and things. I need to deck it out so we can sleep in the back as well because Europe doesn't let you pop a tent anywhere. All the bits are there, just need to work out how to fit it all in. I'm thinking of doing some shelving that can be put in if the 2nd row seats are removed, something that clicks into the latches and bolts into the hinges. More drawing on the back of kit-kat wrappers.

So you see... it's still going strong after nearly 35 years. just a few changes...

New engine, gearbox, transfer box, windscreen, rear seats, mirrors, wipers, wiper rack, wiper boxes, 3x wiper motors, 20+ wheel bearings, rear brake shoes, 2x handbrake shoes, 8+ uj's, turbo, front axle, ignition switch, upper dash panel, rear prop-shaft, front prop-shaft, exhaust, rear door, rear body panels, 2x rear roof, snorkel, one side door, 2x seat belts, 6x batteries...

But it still uses the original key to start it!!

Not bad going! Bet it's been used to it's full potential for majority of those 35 years
Certainly by me at least! We've done many miles and had many adventures. Just need to make it a bit more comfortable and dare I saw reliable before I can convince the wife that we should do another.
