Hi all ,about 2 months ago I got myself a Land Rover Defender now I have this bug that I do t you think I will recover from .
It's a 53 plate defender 90 TD5 hard top ,and could do with some advice if some one would be so kind to help....

I got some puma sliding windows for the back, and the plan was to fit them myself .
It was due a MOT so as it was going in I thought I would get extra bits done, new windscreen seal and windscreen company could put the windows in the back.
Well local garage said he new a company that did them as then they would be bang on ,this did not turn out to be the case .
The job is shocking ,front screen is fine side windows have been fitted to low right to the bottom of the panel,to much silicone so it's pushed out and some one run round with a wet finger then stopped probs thinking I'm making a dogs dinner of this.
I feel like ripping the sides out and getting new ,but for now does any one have any tips on how to sort the silicone mess without scratching the paint ,any advice would be much appreciated.

That was my reaction ,there should be no silicone round the edge like that ,and for position ,I even give them the template I got ,I checked the template when it come and it was correct ,am I wrong in thinking they should check position before cutting? I think they cut it out with an axe can hang me coat on the burrs.

I'd go back to the guy who recommended them and ask him what does he think, in an honest world he should call them and say I reccomend you and this is what you do, he'll be scared to get a bad name also, well one would like to think

Companies have to have insurance against fookin up.

They've fooked up and need to put it right......which is going to take new side panels.

Unless they have solid evidence that you specified 'fit the windows where no Landy has had them....ever' they haven't got a leg to stand on.

Where was your template from for starters? My windows were from Masai in Lichfield and this was what my template looked like

As for silicone it should rub off with your fingers but I'd let the garage worry about that

Thanks for the pics ,my template was from massi ,Masai said the template was suitable for their windows as well as genuine ones.
Cut out vairiations were the corners depending on what windows you had.

I don't see how they've gone wrong then as the template is self explanatory. The only variation from memory on my template was for 90/110 side panels but the height would be the same.

Take it back to the garage.
The people who did the work, were they a proper named company (as in XYZ windscreens) or just some guy working out of a van. Did you get a receipt?

In the first instance go back to the MOT garage, take the template with you and see what they have to say.

I can't work it out ,only thing I can think of is they did not use the template and used the horazontal strut on the inside as a setting out point.
Well I will go in today and see what they say and let you guys know, thanks for the pics on how it should have been done marmaduke I'll use these !!!

Did you not inspect before handing any money over though??? While I agree you should go back and try and sort it out. The prime opportunity to say something would be 'before' you paid and accepted the work.

I didint pay for it there and then l picked it up after work when dark then the penny dropped when I got home how s**t of a job it was.
I called in today said I wasn't happy ,full of excuses.
Blamed the template ...the windows ...staff as he only did part ,not the urethane.
Best offer I got was if I supply some Masai panoramic window he would fit the for free as they are better anyway ,landrover windows **** in he said total w****r

How can he blame the template? As long as you are sure it was right, then it must have been fitted wrong.

Surely they are his Staff, he sounds like a great boss.

Plus, if the windows are crap, why does he fit them and not warn the prospective customer about the issues that may arise before taking on the work.?

He sounds like a right plum. If it is going to be like that you may need to go to the small claim court. What did the guy who recommended him say?

Cheers
