Hi, I bought my old 1961 series two in 1983. Over the years have slowly rebuilt almost everything. I'm from South Australia but spent most of my time in Uganda. This year with Covid I'm unable to return so decided to drive the Landy to northern Queensland. All has been good until a slight problem on hot days caused vapourising but now seems I have an ignition problem. It does, after it cools starts and goes 200 Metres and dies again. Any ideas....the new coil I put in gets very hot??

Welcome to LZ! :)

I think you would do better to post about that in the Series section, or maybe General Land Rover Chat.

However, as you are here now, I will just mention a couple of things. One, coils are prone to breaking down under load, they sometimes run fine at idle, but start to misfire as the revs rise. Two, Series sometimes have different coils, some are 12v coils, others, from memory, 8v with a ballast resistor to bring the voltage down. Are you sure you have fitted the right one?

welcome to LZ good luck with the Queensland trip

been watching a bit of 4wd247 on u tube looks like some epic tracks and some fantastic wild camping.

Think they would have a fit if we even had an open fire here, let alone taking a chainsaw to the woods to get some firewood..

Hi everyone, thanks for your help, I did get my old series two off the side of the road and travelled to my next stop 600 KMs away.
The problem was my condenser but because the distributor was only six months old, I thought it must be the coil. The coil I was sent was not a resistor type, once I fitted this it didn't matter what I did it would only idle. After covering all angles, without success, I finally put back the old coil and it ran like new.
I did put new plugs and Leeds but the coil and condenser must be about 40 years old....the two new parts removed were both made in China....the old parts, made in England and Australia.

Anyhow, I come from Adelaide, South Australia, are now traveling through Queensland and live in Uganda.
Will try and send some photos if I can find the right place to do it....thanks. Phil.
