Transporting an engine

Hi Guys,
I am collecting an engine (200tdi) and gearbox/transfer box later this week. They are separate. I have straps and rope etc, but what is the best way to sit the engine on trailer? Will be going about 150 miles.

If you mean 'where' to place it on the trailer always keep your heaviest weight over the axle. Be a good move to chock it too. I would be inclined to place the g/box ahead of the engine (between motor and towing vehicle)

Always make sure the weight is over the axle(s) yet biased very slightly to the front of the trailer as well, it tows safer and maintains stability if you have to stop quick.
Make sure you strap it down tight too, you dont want it to join you in the towing vehicle in an emergency stop or head on incident.
A mate of mine ended up with a JCB bucket in his truck cab years ago when he had to stop quick...... :doh:

Make sure you drain the oil out the engine before trying to transport it. Take some wood off cuts too. You can use them to chock the engine with.

also do you have a small trolley to lower it on to.?

ther heavy old lumps them.Even the monster V8 s at work weigh less than a 200tdi..

Sit it on some old tyres and strap it down good.

Even if drained it will still contain a surprising amount of oil and water, so either lay it down first somewhere it doesn't mater if it leaks foe seem time first (I'm not sure where in these governmentally concious times) or make sure it is held upright securely.
Mind you having oil spraying along behind your trailer does stop tailgaters!

put the engine in the boot. Get the missus to come along in her car. You can fit an NA in the boot of a 90, and a LR gearbox in the boot of a micra!!
