Can anyone tell me how to get the above pipes off the cooler as do i need to press a quick release spring to remove any help would be appreciated

d2 ? push pipe on squeeze/pull cap back toward the pipe and pull,a tool like this helps,though you need to ensure you get the right size

If the black cover is still in place.. you just pull back on it to release the clip things inside right?

Er, when I did my transmission cooler, there were 2 black colar type things on there, and pulling them back pushed those metal tab things in.. I only realized on the second one, I just broke the first plastic thing off thinking it was nothing and did it with screwdrivers.
 
You can use a 17 mm spanner or what ever size fits over the cooler pipe inlet /outlet to push the black plastic release ring back. The pipe will pop straight off.

Sometimes you need to push pipe forwards onto cooler then pull collar back to release can be an absolute swine or will just fall off
