hi all.
wondered if anyone has experienced this before.
p38 4.0 on lpg 98 r reg. auto
transmission fluid gushing out of the dipstick.
does this when vechile is stood in park. when engine is off fluid level is nearly all the way to the top of the dipstick tube. the fluid has not been topped up and levels were checked last week before a long trip and were fine.is there a way for other fluids etc to get into the gearbox??
dare not take vechile on the road but seems to work through the gears up and down the drive fine no noises etc. new one on me. any thoughts or ideas welcome. thanks.

Does the engine rad have another rad on the side of it to cool the gearbox???
My Omega did and that split internally filling the g/box with coolant....caused it catch fire one night....:rolleyes:

1999 land rover range rover recall - #99v007000

recall for engine and engine cooling

vehicle description: Sport utility vehicles. As a result of water ingress and subsequent ice blockage, the transmission breather tube can become clogged, expelling transmission fluid from the dipstick tube onto hot engine components.

If yours has the gearbox oil cooler in the RAD then the RAD has failed letting water from the cooling system into the gearbox. Have you checked the water level? If that is the problem, fix it quick, gearboxes do not last long with water lubrication:eek:

With engine off it is normal to have a high fluid level. Maybe water from cooler in gearbox, but more likely if fluid shows no creamy discolouration overfilled or blocked vent.
