Hello- got a 300tdi disco 1 manual and getting a good clunk (which i think is coming from the front axle) when i let clutch up and take up drive. there's also a lot of lurching when its on the overrun- drive round a car park in 2nd and the car lurches forward - very hard to keep the drive smooth. i swapped the front and rear diffs last year for known good uns and the engine/gearbox and transbox for a 100,000mile unit about 4 months ago. Its been fine till about a month ago when the clunking started.. Checked the front prop- theres a bit of play in the uj ad i can hear it vibrate a bit under load but nowt that would cause this.. Could it be the CVs/ front splines? Am gonna whip the prop off see how much free movement there is in the TB output shaft but how much is too much?
Similarly, how much play should there be in the diff?
Have checked the front axle-chassis tie rod bushes (rears are new Polys) and whilst the N/S feels a bit looser around the axle than the O/s, theres nothing rattling when i get me pry-bar in? Any ideas? Its getting to be a pig to drive in slow traffic with all the Kangarooing!! Thanks in advance!
