Transfer box

Hi All,
I have just taken delivery of a reconditioned transfer box for my 1993 HCPU, I'm not sure if it has been checked before leaving the workshop. If I hold both prop shaft connections and turn both of them the same way they are very smooth, but if I hold one still and rotate the other one it is really notch-y and metallic noises can be heard when rotating it by hand, I have a 1.1 transfer box out of a very low millage 6 speeder, no nasty noises which ever way I turn the shafts. Do I send it back or is this normal for a recon unit???? Cheers Eddy4x4

May be there is no oil in it which is causing the problem ?

It may well be normal for a tight TB, I wouldnt know.
If you ask in the defender section somebody who has rebuilt or had a rebuilt box may confirm, But any real concern ring the guys that did it and see what they say, was it a well known place?.
