how do i tell what ratio mine is??

1990 def 90 2.5 petrol,

hoping to do a 200tdi transfer from a disco soon and wanna know does my tranny box need changin, all i can see is B16078 punched in on the flat surface just beside the oil drain hole.

Does this mean its a 1:1.6 ratio box?

I searched and came across a photo in busters guides that shows his displayed on a yellow sticker beside the oil fill hole but theres not a trace of a sticker on mine!

1:1.6 wouldn't really be ideal with 205/80 r16 tyres and a 200tdi would it??:(

Have a look at Ashcroft Transmissions website. At the bottom under technical specs or something is a list of all the ratios and what vehicles they should be fitted to

1.66 will be too low

205 tyres you need a 1.2:1 box from a 200tdi discovery. You most probably have a 1.4:1 box fitted there is a label/sticker under the transmission hanebrake back plate failing that its a serial number to check

Yeah looks like i have to go the serial number route so.. thanks both for that.

i had considered staying 1.4:1 and getting 265/75 or getting 1.22:1 with 205/80's fitted
but if its a 1.6:1 i'll have to go with disco tranny box really

thanks for info i'll have a look on ashcrofts now!
