Transfer box leaking on driveway

Is it just a case of new seals?

Tablespoon size puddle in morning so getting a bit out of hand

Cant see exactly where coming from because running onto back of handbrake drum and getting thrown everywhere

Give it a run to get it warm then a good jet wash and then leave it for an hour or two and have a look, that might show you where a drip is coming from. Could also be the large rectangular cover or the drain screw, not just the seals. Have you checked the Tx box oil level just to be sure it is coming from that gearbox and not the main or engine?

There are not, too many, places it can leak from: between the mainbox and the t-box itself which would mean the input seal, out the front or back flange seals, out the speedo drive (probably wouldn't give you that much oil) or the big access plate on the bottom which is where mine wept from. It could leak from the speedo drive housing to main housing seal but doubt it there are other places it could leak from, but unlikely for starters.

I'd just give it a good clean with a rag and some WD40 or GT85 or similar and then take it for a reasonable drive then take a look under. Some of the leaks will be obvious without cleaning them.

All cheap to fix but a pest if it's the input seal as you need to pull that big unbalanced lump off.

Iirc theres a leak off path from inside the drum so when the output seal fails its meant to leak out onto the backplate so not ruining the h/brake shoes.
Before you do it buy the proper prop socket makes life sooo much easier, the 3/8 version is the better one.

meet your mate. As mine looks like the input seal I'm putting it off at the minute

input seal leaks are often intermediate shaft leaks

I saw a wooden cradle that someone made somewhere it was very good and it supported the Transfer Box so you could put a trolley jack under it.
But I cant find the dam picture now

Thats very clever, I had the devils job when I changed the clutch in my td5 disco bloody thing was all over the place!

There are plans for this about on the web. I have them on my desktop PC - look like it's a scan of a LR Workshop manual if I remember correctly. I think I have a steel one too for garages and workshops who would want to use it a lot.

Well must be that time of year, mine is also leaking on the driveway!
