Hi, looking for some advice. Recently bought 1st Defender 90 ('86 2.5 diesel model) and now, when low gear in the transfer box is engaged and I change 1st to 2nd in the main gearbox the transfer gearbox disengages. If my passneger holds stick in low gear position I can move on up in the main gearbox. Suggestions welcomed, thanks.

linkage needs adjusting ,bushes replaced etc, it needs to go fully in sounds like its not quite,if you cant feel detent theres 6mm allen screw on drivers side rear top of t/box winding screw in tightens it too far will stop engagement

either your knocking it out or dog teeth on low gear worn but usually very rare as wear is obviously usually on hi so would show here first ,or gear is not selected enough .linkage etc
