Okay. Another update. Checked the engine fault codes this time and I got this after clearing.

P1708 - Transfer box ecu has given a mil request.
Occured 1 times
Signal Invalid
Fault is currently present.
Fault is determined as persistent.
Fault does not cause the mil lamp activation.

Neutral switch on auto is in XYZ switch. But there is a Low selected switch in the gear selector base i believe. Maybe they have pulled the wire for it. It goes in through a grommet at back of gear selector box.

Look in RAVE 1999 on electrical trouble shooting for connector C0673. If that has been pulled off or partially displaced it may give your problem.

Thanks Wammers. Will have a look.

Crap time for this to happen - sposed to be moving this weekend!!

Think I may have to unless I can get it sorted today.

A trip to Glasgow tonight and one to Newcastle on Sunday too. Many much lots of driving to be done!

Took it for a wee run - I think I'm now convinced it's actually in low range just now. Revving quite high and no-where near as smooth as it used to be.

It would be pretty obvious if it was in low range. Did you check the switch i mentioned?

Not yet - need to find 10 minutes to strip the console out to check out. Trying to do it all around moving and phonecalls etc is a pain in the arse.

Need to find a 10amp fuse too... and it's all packed away!

Should be a spare in the engine bay fuse box. Still think it's likely if the new transfer motor is sound that they pulled the harness and dislodged the CO673 plug.

In the RR post, the guy had the same problem. Replaced the motor and that seemed to cure his issue (same symptoms and fault code).

Just stripped it all and can see no issues with the switch but will try the fuse method once I've put it back together.

Got me a fuse.

So, ignition off, fuse in to position 11.

Should I then switch ignition on, move from park to neutral a few times and see what happens or is there a different method?
