Hi,

Should the transfer box just 'slip in' to High/Low ratio like it would going into 3rd to 4th. Mine does sometimes but other times it needs the clutch to be fiddled when pushing it in and then it sometimes 'slips out' as you start driving along after changing ratio??? Its for a 1991 200Tdi Defender 90.

Is there any hints/tips to doing it, I always make sure I have stopped and am in neutral on the main box.

All advice WILL be helpful,

Cheers for your help.

Here's how it's done. Main box into neutral, transfer box into neutral, foot on clutch and put main box into 1st, push transfer lever forward (or back) as far as it wants to go, then hold it there and gently let the clutch out. You'll feel it drop nicely into gear and it should stay there.

sounds normal to me - same as mine.
i always dip clutch, shift t/f H to N. lift clutch, dip clutch, shift t/f N to L. (opposite procedure when going L to H).
seems to work OK most times then.
