Trans fail prog - New box ???

Hi all, Wife has just phioned me at work and said she thinks that 'Trans Fail Prog' came up and she lost all drive. After the call to me she managed to get home which was only another 0.5mile (the past couple of weeks I did have what felt like a small miss fire at low rev's but garage could not find anything wrong). Looking at all the threads on this it could be transfer box/ gearbox issue. Car is on 03 plate 57k and pan filter was replaced last year with no signs of metal in oil. Need car to trip to France next Friday week, can anyone recommend a suitable transmission place if needs refurbishing.

That miss fire feeling could well be the torque convertor giving up, its becomming quite a well known thing with these, although 57 K is a little on the low side - they usually start at 80k

Try Thames Transmissions , Canvey Island ( nowt to do with me), they've been around a long time and may be able to assist

Book alternative transport as a back-up....

get your battery checked

Torque convertors tend to break up on these putting debris into the system filter clogs and box struggles for oil, that results in wear. New torque convertor minimum i would think. More than likely new box.

Hi thanks for your feedback so far.
Have got home now and have driven car.
Starts fine, drive off and then stop, when I try to move again no drive. Switch engine off and then back on again and drive again but then when I stop and start again the same issue. The same process was repeated every time. No additional running noises noticed.

Only thing you are doing by playing that trick is spreading crap around various parts of the system. Keep it up and you will definitely need a new box.

My guess is V8 at that mileage...
