Please help every now and again when i am driving allong the Traction failure warning comes on the dash board along with the ABS light and the traction light. Also when i turn my wheels on full lock i am getting a strange grinding noise from the drivers wheel like something is draging along the floor i have had a look but all looks ok any ideas.

Not really a major job,not very cheap and no you cant still drive it - its dangerous.Jack the wheel off the ground and see if there is any movement in the bearing - any at all and its shot.

It's possibly also taken out the CV joint, stub axle, half-shaft et al .. and will only get worse .. DON'T drive it .. ;)

Today is the first time i have heard it thats sounds like a lot of damage for something thats only just made a noise.

Heh .. so you've got some advice, up to you what to do with it.

Look at what was said ... possibly ... and yes, it can happen that quickly. When a wheel bearing gets to the noisy part it's been wobbling 'silently' for ages and would normally show up in loose handlling, an occasional 'odd' feeling through steering etc. If you leave it till it gets noisy it can already be too late to just tighten it up.

OK I have now had the wheel bearing changed and all good. Apart for the traction failure still comes on and the ABS failure this never came up untill the wheel bearing went. Has something not gone back right or do i need to have the fault removed from the memory.

Would that be easy to replace and at what sort of cost to buy the sensor. Also would that bring the traction fault up if the sensor was faulty.

Did you have "a" bearing replaced or, was it "two" bearings? The sensor, if P38, fits into the steering nuckle at the top, immediatly behind the hub. Classic into top of swivle housing, no promises but sensor maybe OK. Fingers crossed!!

Do not remove sensor If you haven't already that is, - as you could damage it or the bush and seal if you're not careful.

Get yourself a short piece of round steel bar about 6mm or 1/4" diam with blunt ends, to use as a drift to very softly tap the Sensor inwards until you feel it seat against the axle, it should only move a tiny bit before bottoming out so go steady, then take car for a drive to see if light goes out. If it doesn't then sensor could be damaged, or, it could just quite possible be loose bearings or unadjusted sensors on any of the other wheels.

Oh, and the sensors self resets so there are no codes to clear.:)

I had one wheel bearing done the one that was faulty. Yes the sensor was removed and put back after as i said earlyer i did not have any of these problrms before this wheel bearing went. Any idea how much a new sensor is and how hard they are to replace.

If sensor case is not worn through to internal coils it should be ok. Sensor should not touch rotor, push it in until it touches then twist it out about .030 or .040 thou. About a millimetre to those who use French measurement. Also the plug that connects sensor to loom may have been disturbed. If sensor is not damaged and resetting sensor does not work. Take plug apart an clean pins and sockets, it is behind wing under guard. If all that fails new sensor i am afraid.

LATEST UPDATE.

Just had a mec try to adjust the sensor thats when i get another problem. when he adjusts the sensor and the warning lights go out but the car brakes act like the ABS is on all the time(Juddering). Then when we push the sensor back in the lights stay on and the brakes all work fine. Any ideas would be great but i feel it is the sensor or sensor ring just need some one that knowes more and can help me.

Could be a wheel bearing still a little bit of play, and also who knows, the ABS cpu and unit itself may need time to adjust. my bet is still a bearing just not quite correctly fitting, they are very very fussy buggers.

any ideas what to do as it is due a MOT in a week and it wont pass with the ABS and Traction light on.

CHECK THE WHEEL BEARINGS, 99% of the time this is the problem if juddering . Like I said previous post, the sensors are very sensitive if wheel bearings not perfectly adjusted.
And I think your mechanic is pulling them out a bit to stop juddering, not pushing them in. If there is juddering when you have not touched the pedal then you need to check your brake switch possibly, as it maybe sending signal constantly to ecu that brake is applied.

I may be confusing you let me start again. The first i new of this problem was i would drive down the road all ok put the wheels on full lock and my warning allarms would come up and my brakes would seem like i didnt have any. Then it would clear and all be ok. So i was informed on hear it was prob my bearing so i had it changed. Since i had it changed my warning lights come on as soon as i pull away but my brakes are all fine.So people on hear sugested i need to adjust the sensor but every time we adjust the sensor and the lights go out when you brake there feels like there are no brakes again. So it seams like the sensor is working in reverse. Can any one tell me what i need to do or is anyone local who can have a look.

Me too!!
Mines a 1994 "soft dash" Classic, last of the line with ABs Traction control etc. How I wish It didn't like my old one!
My ABS and TC lights were coming on and it was going into TC mode all the time and the right rear disc was glowing orange as the brake was being activated. I changed the front CV joints etc as there was a banging noise when turning and thought I had sorted it but no.
I have now changed rear left sensor which had the wires snapped off, still the rear right wheel has its brakes coming on courtesy of the TC.
She is unusable. Anyone any ideas?
Steve
