Hi all. Just had my steering knuckle ball joints replaced but as I drove away from the garage the traction control lamp on dash came on and the brakes gradually brought me to a stand still. This happened a few times as I took it back. Has anyone any info on this so I have some knowledge when I collect it in a couple of days...... after they repair the back end as they reversed it into another customers defender 110. Thought I was on camera... thanks for any info guys.
 
Sounds like a duff ABS sensor giving a difference in wheel speeds which the ABS tries to correct when there's no need and it brings you to a stop.

Diagnostic plug in will show the problem corner. My guess and don't quote me... is a new hub - the abs wire and hub (and the bearing inside!) come as one part.
 
Thanks difflock. Spoke to them today and according to scanner its showing a shuttle valve fault?? Ive never had this before and was wondering whether its something they have done as it was okay before.... except for vague steering due to knuckle joints.

A duff wheel sensor should not be able to cause the vehicle to come to a halt as that would be dangerous. At above about 40mph TC should be disabled and in any case it only pulses the brakes. ABS should only activate if the brake pedal is pressed.
 
it's not about duff sensor, it's about the fact that the sensor is good as long as it passes the stationary system self test(which means no 3 amigos) just that it can give different reading from others at the same speed then the TC kicks in,, actually the TC through axles is disabled only above 62.5mph untill there if it "thinks" based on erratic inputs that it's a wheel spin it will work the TC untill the inputs will be equal which means the car stops.... saw that many times, one reason is that there are more manufacturers and the sensor will pass the self test as long as it's resistance is between 950-1100Omh but if there are two or more sensors with big difference between theyrs resistances the TC will be erratic, the whole story here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/3174091-post4.html
 
they are replaceable... i was forced some time ago to replace all 4 with wabco ones to get rid of TC erratic behaviour... without any fault logged or 3 amigos at all
