Hi all

i spent a good 2 hours this morning draining the swivel oils for installing one-shot lube on my D1. It only took 30 mins to do the job but the other 90 was spent trying to get the damn N/S filler plug out:mad: That thing was tighter than a ducks arse. I dont think think oil featured big in the past life of this motor as i only drained about a cup full in total out of BOTH housings:doh:

Anyway, job done and no leaks yet:) So i was laying there trying to figure out how to shift the blasted plug and i see both track rod end bllows are split to buggery, strange as it only had an MOT five weeks ago:doh:

So are track rod ends a DIY job?? or best/easiest left to a tyre shop/garage??

If done at home, what happens about tracking??

Many thanks
Dave

hi dave.
I did my rod ends about 2 months ago. Its easy to do, there are 3 r/h threaded ends and 1 l/h. If you find you cannot unscrew the ends fom the shafts then apply heat to the ends of the shaft and this should do the trick. when you come to screw in the new ends apply copper slip to the threads. then get the tracking checked. elt.

Just looked, excellent stuff. 'Cos they aren't going back on, i can use the simple wedge splitter so i think i'll have a go myself.

Something's bound to snap or shear off:eek:
