Track Rod End

How does one tell what thread is needed on the track rod end with out taking the old one off first?

I need a passenger side TRE for my 86 110.

You cant.

You could try and follow whats left of the visible thread, but really youi cant tell for sure,

So if the rod is correct there should be a conventional right thread on the passenger side and a left thread on the drivers side?

I'd just buy both and changed both at least you know it's sorted for a while.

Maybe......what state is the other in? It could be worth replacing both, and then they're done. That way you'll need one of each

Seems I have 3 so Im going to have to take a risk.

Am I correct that the drag link ball joint should be a rh thread.

RTC5870 - left hand thread, RTC5869 - right hand thread (drivers side). According to my 1987 parts manual.

Yes you are it's also a RTC5869.

I bought me one of these when I did mine and it makes life a lot easier and doesn't damage the ball joint rubber jobbers either like the hammer one I've got.

+1. They are not expensive even if you go for the more expensive brands. I have just changed all of mine.
