I've got an underfloor LPG tank, which means that the usual towbar (with the ears sticking out of the rear of the towbar main x member) won't fit. I saw one on ebay earlier this week where the bolts went straight through the x member, but i didn't win it and i don;t know the make. Anyone got any idea??

I have what i think is just a standard towbar with "ears" at both ends of x member...this easily clears the ends of the lpg tank and doesnt interfere... Virtually every lpg set up Ive seen varies from vehicle to vehicle but unless you have somthing strange going on I cant see why standard tobar wont fit...Piccy of tank and towbar set up might help to sort problem.

The tank sits too far rearward to allow the x member of the tow bar fit.

Most makes i have found have a similiar design to this:-
http://www.fittinginstructions.co.uk/Towtrust/TL246.pdf

the design means that the towbar cross member sits forward of the mounting holes (ears on the towbar) in the rear floor member. The edge of my gas tank sits inline with the front edge of this floor member so its no good.

But, I found this from brink which i think should just fit

Trouble is now, do i spend money on a towbar to put on such a piece if crap car thats constantly having to be repaired!!! ;)

Think mine is the same design as your first example but as said previously I havnt seen 2 installations that are the same....will take a peek under later and see if grey matter can work it out.

first design defo won't work as i've already had one of those on another piece of crap ;-)

I suppose i could have moved the gas tank, but thats a major PITA!

Gents any chance on some info for your LPG tank location, at the point of going down this road, but dont wont to loose any rear internal space, due to my large family dog.

Hope you get your tow bar resoved, cheers Dutch RR

The rear boot underfloor cubby box has been removed and a flate plate riveted in, and a 55 litre cylidrical tank fitted to the underside of the floor. A 55 litre tank will only hold 45 litres of LPG (expnasion), so I only get 200miles per fill. Its far cheaper than petrol, but the limited range is a little annoying, especially as my daily commute if 120 miles

are you still looking for a tow bar?

i might need to swap mine as my bike rack is not compatable with mine. as it has a swan neck type not a bolt on type which i need.
i shall take photos when i get 5 mins if your interested.

As other post remove boot well....72ltr tank (approx 60ltr usable gas)
Due to off road use ally guard fitted and heavy steel frame now in boot floor as found that guard and tank were being pushed up into boot area.

Yep - The lugs on the crossbar push the bar too far back as the LPG tank is near hardup behind the chassis rear cross member so what's needed is a towbar with the crossbar itself drilled to bolt straight through and I guess the side flanges need to be extended to bring the Towbar forward the distance between the lug hole centers and the center of the crossbar. Can anyone name names ? Who makes/supplies these LPG tank suitable Freelander towbars ? Thanks.
