Towbar Fitting

I am thinking about putting a towbar on my Freelander and found one for sale on e-bay and it has all the electrics including socket for caravan,Is it easy to wire up for caravan or is it best to take to an auto electrician.

If it is designed for a freelander it should just plug in - socket OS rear qtr panel

The plug for the trailer I know is ok it is the wiring for the caravan socket I am interested in,Do I have to run wires to the alternator for the caravan to charge.

You are talking about the auxillary socket as opposed to the running lights/indicators/brake lights. If I'm not mistaken you are going to have to run that one yourself Ram mate.

My freelander had both sockets behind panel for trailer and caravan sockets !

I'm in the process of wiring up my 12S socket myself. Just going about finding my own way of retro fitting it. I it's wired in properly there's no need to run the wires from the alternator, just use the ones already there.
But more to the point, how you fitting your towbar? Yourself or a garage? Not sure on what is checked on the MOT now, but I'm lead to beloved that the towbar mounts are part of it.

mechanical side of fitting the tow bar is a piece of ****, 1/2 hr tops, 6 bolts job done.

It came with all the cable, fuse holder, connectors, instructions, the full monty (for my van) only £104 delivered. Check them out for any bits you need, particularly the relay and instructions to connect the caravan so the battery will charge and the fridge will run, but only when the car engine is running (so no discharge) The reversing lights are also on this socket , not on the 12N trailer socket for some reason .....Brilliant.
