hiya,

just wired my series up for pulling my caravan and everything works
perfectly, except the indicators, when i indicate the coresponding
side on the van and landy flash really dim and about twice as fast as
they should.

a neighbour said it could be the bulbs are too high a watage for the
relay, or a bad earth.

what do you think?

and whats the answer?

regards to all

I think your neighbour is on the right track.

New flasher unit - preferably one of the electronic ones that's stable
under varying bulb loads.

I went to Halfords and bought a different indicator relay that suited the
amount of lighting .. and included a 'buzzer' to warn me when the
caravan/trailer was (or wasn't) coupled .. ;)

And you must have visible or audible warning that your trailer
indicators are flashing.

No, you've just got a 2x21w flasher fitted. Go out to Halfords and buy
a 2+1x21w flasher (for trailers lights as well) which will handle the
extra lights. This will have 4 connectors instead of the three you
currently have, the extra terminal should be (by law) connected to
another warning lamp, to show that the flashers on the trailer are
working as well.

you are probably overloading the flasher unit. Should fit 2 relays- wire
input to rear flasher wireing 1 for left and 1 for right, then wire an
independent supply (there should be an unused powered wire in rear loom)
through the relay output to trailer flashers. cheap few UKP from
halfords etc work ok. DON'T USE SCOTCHLOCKS unless you want a completely
undecipherably wireing mess in a few years.

could fit a more powerful flasher unit :) never tried it myself though!

sometimes both trailer and vechicle rears are taken from relays.

generally it flashes really quickly when a bulb gone.
