I'm about to embark on fitting a towbar on a 2001 TD4. It is my intention to go to the local specialist breakers (rather than have to take out a second mortgage at the main dealer). Can anyone advise re the electrics? I am advised the car is pre wired and there is a plug in behind the side panelling in the boot area so is it just a case of unplugging one and transferring it from car to car or does it have to be "programmed" into the cars electrical system by computer hook up? Is that the lead that normally costs about £100 from Mr Stratstone?

Providing you find a "plugged" one in a scrappy, it should take you no more than half an hour to remove or fit. Biggest prob is disconnecting and removing cable. You may need to change your indicator relay, so best to get that from the donor vehicle, if you can. But no "programming" required.
