ok then people who tow caravans i just picked up my p38 dt and it has a swan neck type tow bar fitted detachable type just wondering if this is compatable with the alko tow hitch on my caravan its a 50mm ball but they all are .need some answers pretty quick as going away friday .plus a bit of advice on anything i should do or not do regarding the air suspension .or is it just hitch up as normal .thanks in advance

the ball and hitch should be fine but you do need to isolate the suspension with the button by the switch on the dash otherwise when the suspension drops and raises it could throw the stabilty when the weight shifts

I don't do shed dragging any more (I miss it to be honest) but I fitted a standard Alko hitch used in conjunction with a factory fitted swan neck, but it was on a Merc back then. I believe ball fittings made by Alko are the same dia. as standard balls, it's just the neck part that's a bit longer. Best to phone a reputable caravan dealer and ask if in doubt.

You may know already but load van so it's slightly nose down when hitched, nothing heavy stored high up.

right thanks for that been caravaning a long time but it was just something a guy said at work got me mind ticking over .and with it being 14 years old it just might not be compatable with the tow hitch .mind at rest now thanks every one

Yes swan neck is fine as long as you have removed grease and any rust as it would damage /wear the pads inside the Alko hitch.

P38 OEM detachable ball is 50mm dia.and not a problem with the Alko AKS stabilisers.
Have towed a twin axle Bailey Senator for years without any problems.

As has been previously posted, the ball must be free of grease (Clean it with White Spirit or petrol beforehand) and rust.

Just had to buy 2 dunlop air bags for rear on mine, i am prity sure the old ones are the same age as the range rover, 1999, Just need to get them fitted, got new fitting kit too, (thanks Saint:)
